Best practices
Write snippets that get clicked
Writing a great title tag
- Put your primary keyword near the start
- Keep it 50-60 characters (under 580px)
- Include your brand name at the end: "Keyword | Brand"
- Make it match the page's actual content
- Avoid ALL CAPS - it reads as shouting
- Every page needs a unique title
Writing a great meta description
- Aim for 120-158 characters - sweet spot for Google
- Include the keyword naturally - Google bolds matches
- Write a value proposition: what will the user get?
- End with a soft call to action: "Learn more", "See the list"
- Avoid duplicate descriptions across pages
- Write for humans first, Google second
Pixels vs characters - why it matters
- Google measures title width in pixels, not characters
- "W" is 3x wider than "i" - counts vary per letter
- A 65-char title of narrow letters may fit fine at 580px
- A 50-char title with many wide letters may still truncate
- This tool uses canvas pixel measurement - same as Google
- Descriptions are measured in characters (~158 max)
